Wedding Gifts With A Difference

So, you’ve got the dress sorted, and you’ve decided where the reception is going to be and who is getting an invitation – but what about your gift list? More often these days, brides and grooms are already living together and have most of the household items they need.

Art is fast becoming an alternative on the gift registry for couples like this – a way in which guests can still participate in providing a wedding present, but in a different way.

If you like this idea, check out the work of Skye-based artist Mari French. She exhibits and sells her distinctive abstracted acrylic and mixed-media paintings from her home studio on the Isle of Skye and from galleries around Scotland. She is my favourite artist on Skye and I am the owner of one of her creations myself which is my pride and joy!

Winner of two Highland contemporary art prizes, her work is held in private collections around the UK, Europe and the USA. Light and atmospherics play a strong part in her finished pieces, where the build-up of complex layers and the exposure of under-painting all add to the visual intensity experienced by the viewer.

Mari is very happy to consider commissions for paintings – whether abstract or more representational subject matter – and has already completed a few such commissions as wedding presents, including the first piece shown below.
